Therapeutic horseback riding for individuals with disabilities in San Diego County. This recreational activity can improve coordination, muscular strength, motor skills, flexibility, and self-esteem, among other skills.
Mission Statement: Bonita Equestrian Therapy is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing therapeutic riding activities in a safe, effective and compassionate environment.
Bonita Equestrian Therapy for Heroes is honored to support OEF/OIF combat injured veterans including those with amputations, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder, in a 10-week therapeutic/recreational-riding program. Mounted sessions improve muscle tone, balance, coordination, and confidence. Sessions working with horses on the ground builds a direct connection with the horse, builds trust and communication, and provides an opportunity for emotional release, unconditional acceptance, and a sense of accomplishment.
“I feel that this kind of program offers me an opportunity that no hospital can provide. I wouldn’t change anything. I think the program is outstanding and I’m happy to come here every week” – Gene Smith, one of the first participants in the B.E.T.H program.
